Should the republic of Ireland and possibly the UK raise the legal age to purchase and consume alcohol?

February 20, 2010 - 5:12 am 11 Comments

I was thinking it should be raised to 21, as there are too many issues with alcohol abuse with young people.

Drunk driving
Physical violence conflicted by alcohol
Kids needing their stomachs being pumped
Deaths due to alcholic poisoning
incompetence in the work force, due to being hung over.
Hang overs been considered as an acceptable reason to miss days from work.

Should 21 or possibly older be the legal age to purchase alcohol in Ireland?

yes 21 is a more realistic age. do it now not next year, now. make the fines £1000 for obtaining or serving

Where can i find an old season or cheap republic of Ireland football shirts?

February 18, 2010 - 2:30 am 3 Comments

Sadly my much loved Nan died on sunday. At the request of my grandad all 23 grandchildren are going to wear ireland football tops to the funeral as she was irish and absolutely loved football. We want to keep things as cheap as possible because we need to buy quite a few. Any suggestions will be welcome!

Search ebay for the shirt then email those who have ebay stores as they are the most likely to be able to get large numbers quickly. They will most likely be replicas not official merchandise but I doubt that is a concern for you.

Is renting a motor home in the Republic of Ireland advisable?

February 13, 2010 - 10:51 am 7 Comments

I am very interested in renting a motorhome and seeing ireland, there are also festivals to attend but have heard that the roads are quite difficult in ireland, especially for a big vehicle. anyone has any experience with this?
Im all for a camper van but am worried as to where to park, can i jsut park anywhere? Anyone has any suggestions as to rental companies? Im looking for campervans with automatic transmission if possible! thanks!

Many of the rural roads are single track and very narrow with grass growing in the middle lol. Most of the roads where I live are like that. Some roads like the Healey pass and Connor pass near the coast in Kerry you would not want to go up in a motor home but generally in the villages and towns you’d be fine I’m sure.

Will the Republic of Ireland ever obtain Northern Ireland?

February 4, 2010 - 11:05 am 5 Comments

Now, while today’s political atmosphere may point towards no, I’m just curious what are the odds that sometime in the future that Northern Ireland is annexed by the Republic of Ireland; I know this has been a conflict/question of the Irish for years and years, and anything Irish really interests me. So, what’s your take? Does the UK have too strong a grasp on it politically, economically, religiously, and socially? Or could the entire island of Ireland unite once more as the Irish flag foretells?

2024 apparently according to Star Trek, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8thJJDLang I for one think a United Ireland would make more sense economically, but it ever is to happen it must happen peacefully and with consent of the people of northern Ireland.

Interestingly an enough is most British people don’t want Northern Ireland as part of the United Kingdom http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2001/aug/21/northernireland.northernireland1 But the majority of people in Northern Ireland would support staying with Britain in the United Kingdom, so who knows

can i travel to republic of ireland with an indefinite leave to remain in d uk?

Ignore Lone Wolf & Pub, ILR allows you to live & work permanently in the UK, it does not grant you the same rights to travel & movement through the EU as a British citizen

Whether or not you need a visa is determined by your nationality, some non-EU nationals can visit the Republic of Ireland for a short holiday without a visa, others can’t, if you follow the link for the Irish Embassy’s website it will tell you if you need one or you can give them a ring

http://www.embassyofireland.co.uk/home/index.aspx?id=75477#FAQ2

Since the Republic of Ireland & the UK are not signatories of the Schengen Agreement, the rules for travelling in the Schengen Zone don’t apply either

I want to move to the republic of Ireland but i have a couple questions?

January 23, 2010 - 1:28 pm 5 Comments

Im thinking I might want to move to the Republic Of Ireland, I want a change from the U.S.

My grandmother has told me that Ireland supposedly still has outbreaks of violence between the protestants and all that, though I thought that was just Northern Ireland.

And also whats the job situation at the moment?

well i live in the north i can help you with that. Recently in the North, the violence between Protestants and Catholics has dramatically decreased. The IRA (Irish Republican Army) signs as official "ceasefire", but the RIRA (Real Irish Republican army, and off spring from IRA do not agree with this) and they are a very minority group compared continue to fight the police force and UDF (ulster defense Force) Recently Republicans have killed 2 Army personnel in a barracks in Antrimm town, and also they planted a bomb under a Republican Irish police man car, although he survive he will never walk again. But it has decreased alot. This is not to say the Protestant community does non bad. They usually aren’t under as much investigation as the Police force is a good % Protestant. I am personally a Roman Catholic Republican, and i want Ireland to be free, and keep my culture, but shedding blood is no way to do it.

The Job situation is currently not as great as it used to be, with the recession. But before it, Job were on the high, the Computer software/games, building industry’s were booming, and i think tey will grow again after it. As long as you have good qualifications, with skills and talents needed, i think you will do great

Sorry if offended anyone with my view and the history, it was a brief summery.

Do cars in Republic of Ireland have steering wheels on the left or right side?

January 11, 2010 - 3:34 pm 5 Comments

Someone told me that cars in the Republic if Ireland (i.e. not part of the UK) have their steering wheels on the left hand side as opposed to the UK’s right handed ones. I’m just wondering if this is true?

Also could someone please offer a link to a website where I can search second hand cars for sale there? Google offers nothing much… Cheers!!!

same as england UK on the right, look on ebay for ireland users and look up motors you should find a bargain on there

How do i transfer a private pension from the republic of ireland to a bank in scotland where i now live?

January 8, 2010 - 9:01 pm 2 Comments

I lived in the Republic of Ireland for ten years then i moved back to scotland. I informed the bank of ireland about this and they said i could transfer the pension to a bank over here. I can not find a bank that will do this, If anyone else has actually done this can you advise me as i am worried about losing this money.

Are you already receiving this pension? Just say which bank account you want it to be paid into, and it will be done from source. There are many Irish people receiving English pensions here this way, and it works in reverse as well. At the receiving bank, it is treated as a foreign exchange transaction. At the moment, with the Euro being strong, you will get a decent return. If the exchange rate goes back to the way it was, with one pound sterling again worth a lot more than euro, your pension won’t be good value once the bank takes its slice in fees.

can i drive in republic of ireland if i have learner permit from uk?

December 27, 2009 - 2:24 pm 5 Comments

The answer is NO. Even an Irish driver with a learners permit has to have an experienced driver, sitting beside him in the passenger seat at all times.

do the republic of ireland see northern ireland as a part of Ireland?

November 27, 2009 - 1:47 am 17 Comments

or the UK…?

It’s part of the Island of Ireland.

Nationalist: "Are you Irish?"
Unionist: "No, I am British."
Nationalist: "…Are you here on holiday then?"
