Near Banbridge Town in the County Down
One morning last July
Down a Boreen green came a sweet colleen
And she smiled as she passed me by
She looked so sweet from her two bare fee
To the sheen of her nut-brown hair
Such a coasing elf that I shook myself
To make sure I was really there

From Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay
And from Galway to Dublin Town
No maid I ‘ve seen like the brown colleen
That I met in the County Down

As she onward sped, then I scratched my head
And I looked with a feeling rare
And I says, says, I to a passer-by
Who ‘s the girl with the nut-brown hair ?
Then he looked to me with a smile and says
That ‘s the gem of the Ireland ‘s crown
She ‘s young Rosie McCann from the Banks of the Bann
She ‘s the star of the County Down.

    definately the same micamac, i have the cds that we bought from them when they were playing in the old town walls and i would recognise the version anywhere, it is quite unique.

    I went to concarneau every year for 12 years form the age of 5 and now i have not gone for a few years my dad reckons my mum and i are suffering “concarneau withdrawal symptoms” because we both miss all that so much.

    I´ve got the first two or three CD´s from them if you here them its like Holiday´s you just need the atmospher like in Concarneau, this walls, little streets and the Water around… Wish i could be there… Makes me a little bit sad to think about it…

    I love them. I’ve been visiting Brittany since i was four (13 yrs)and have seen them every time i went performing in the old town of concarneau. They are part of my favourite childhood memories and i have several of thier CD’s. They are amazing to watch perform.

    The accent is charming and it’s a reminder that there are Celts originally from France and Spain as well as Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales. I wish my French accent was as good as their English!

    I sure didn´t mean nor say the singer has to be of the native language. Non-native english speakers won´t have english accent – but french people singing in english, that´s known to sound very funny.

    Musically, it doesn´t seem to interesting to me, but it´s not bad, indeed. But the vocals are…weird?

    Micamac are legendary, I’ve seen them every time I’ve visited Konkerne/Concarneau, one of the best groups I ever seen play, and for free too!
