How do I speak in an Irish accent for my school musical production?

I am playing the role of an Irish Police Officer (Officer Patrick Kelly) for our school’s musical. It is set in the 1950′s. It would really set the mood, and be funny if I would be able to talk in an Irish accent! I would greatly appreciate your help! Thank you!

That’s great that you want to get so into character!

If you truly want to have a flawless Irish accent, I suggest watching this movie: Chocolat. At least, watch the bits with Johnny Depp… in the movie he is Irish. It’s much easier than trying to explain it.

Here is a scene with him:

Good Luck!

  1. The way to talk like a foreigner is to copy the sounds that they make. If you don’t want to spend money, there’s a lot of videos on Youtube. I perfected my Russian accent by just copying the sounds. There’s a video on Youtube called 21 Accents, where a lady does 21 accents in about a minute in a half. Just focus on the voice and sounds.
