Technically i’m already an Irish citizen, it just hasn’t been authorized. My father and grandmother are both Irish citizens. I know a certain number of residency years are required before citizenship, but I was wondering if that applied to people like me who are direct descendants.

If your father was an Irish citizen then no residency is required. How you go about registering is a matter of where your father was born.
