Is renting a motor home in the Republic of Ireland advisable?
I am very interested in renting a motorhome and seeing ireland, there are also festivals to attend but have heard that the roads are quite difficult in ireland, especially for a big vehicle. anyone has any experience with this?
Im all for a camper van but am worried as to where to park, can i jsut park anywhere? Anyone has any suggestions as to rental companies? Im looking for campervans with automatic transmission if possible! thanks!
Many of the rural roads are single track and very narrow with grass growing in the middle lol. Most of the roads where I live are like that. Some roads like the Healey pass and Connor pass near the coast in Kerry you would not want to go up in a motor home but generally in the villages and towns you’d be fine I’m sure.
some of the roads can be narrow and winding but they also have some very good roads over there

If you stay to the main roads between towns, even smaller towns, you’ll be fine.

All the roads shown, including the yellow ones, won’t cause any problems. Some smaller rural roads, which aren’t shown, could be tricky as they are frequently narrow and twisty.
http://www.aaireland.ie/routes_beta/ is interactive, and you can zoom right in. I have seen caravans motoring without problems on many of the roads which are not coloured. Make an outline plan of where you would like to go, and keep mainly to the bigger roads. If you want to go someplace else, someplace very rural, ask locally about the best route to take.
Festivals are unlikely in very remote areas
Come and enjoy your visit.

The roads are generally narrow and twisty here, yes, so a big vehicle could be a problem. Camper vans seem to manage okay, though, why don’t you look into getting one of those?

The roads in Ireland compare quite favourably internationally.
Going up a mountain in a secluded area never ; anywhere ; is it geared to
outsize vehicular traffic
Population demographic, dictated access .. Though the Gaelic name BOTHAR
for road means Cattle-Drive, so does the word BOSPORUS which serves quite
adequately as the main EURASIAN road.
Motor home idea is just great1

At the moment, ireland is pretty flooded. Cork, galway and parts of dublin are screwed. No the best time of year here now, maybe in the summertime?..:)

No. Many of the roads … other than the main highways … are difficult to pass when another car comes the oppostie way. If you’re in a motorhome, it won’t work.
If you need this, try renting a small van and carry some tent camping gear. Bear in mind, however, that automatic transmission rental will cost you much more in Ireland.
