Is the Republic of Ireland separate from Northern Ireland?

Hey everyone, I know this may seem like a dumb question but it is very important. Please, is the Republic of Ireland separate from Northern Ireland or are they one and the same, governed by the same laws? Thanks!

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, along with England, Scotland and Wales.

The Republic of Ireland is an independent country, with its own laws, and is not in any way answerable to the UK.

Yep, Two Separate governing bodies. The North is part of the U.K. and the Republic is governed by its own laws.

Heres a History of Ireland that you might find interesting:

  4. Northern Ireland is still under the rule of the British Sovereign. They use different currency to Republic of Ireland. Since the peace treaty, there are no borders and both are free to travel between north and south.

  5. It is not a dumb question and it is more deeper than you think. There are however 2 jurisdictions in Ireland. Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. The UK has jurisdiction over the “North” while the Dail governs the rest.

Problem is this. The proclamation of independence which is the foundation of the Irish constitution asserted a 32 county socialist republic. That’s the snag. Presently it’s a 26 county republic. Its doesn’t matter what laws have been passed since then. If you base national independance on a proclamation: that proclamation must stand. Those eejits now trying to bring the North back to the brink of violence use that argument in their favour to justify mayhem.

In terms of law though? Well you got England/Wales common law. Same principals apply to Ireland and America. Its all common law you see. Europe though and thanks to Napolean Bonapart has a different method called “Code Law”. Personally I think code law is better because it relies on the spirit of the law (rather than the literal or dictim view of common law). Scotland are a law on to themselves on the other hand. Not joking! Scot’s law was a mixture of Common and Code.
