Weird question–Is it illegal to carry a firearm in your car in the Republic of Ireland?

Is it illegal for members of the British forces to have their firearm in their car over the border? Can you carry a concealed weapon in the Republic (NOT Northern) Ireland.
Ta in advance…I know it is a weird question, but my friend and I were wondering, as we encountered this.

I would expect that it is illegal. The British forces have no authority in the Republic and therefore unless the firearm is licensed in the Republic or it has been declared to the Irish customs they would not be permitted to carry one.

for what reason do you need one and have you a current fire arms licence to carry one.?be prepared for a long holiday.

it is illegal to display a firearm in republic,IE walking in a public area even with the gun broke [ that's unloaded and split in two] and discharge it within 60yards of a public road, lets say you throw it in the back of your car and you can see it in the window, you would be in trouble for public display. if a member of the crown is in the republic with a firearm, that is illegal as he has no licence in this country, [ a blind eye has been turned before]

You encountered this ? you know a British military person who has a weapon in his vehicle crossing into the Republic ?? when did you encounter this? and off cause its not legal for it to happen

Yes it is totally illegal. My friend who is in the irish army and his fellow soilders once arrested and detained two british soilders who had crossed into the republic for a short trip. They left their uniforms on and were pounced on. special permission has to be obtained for any soilder of a forreign army to wear their uniform in public in the republic of ireland.
They are certinly not allowed carry a gun in their uniform in their car let alone their guns. This is a serious matter. You should have reported this,

Its illegal even for British soldiers to enter the Republic if they are unarmed.
